Local Authority Initiatives – June 2011

Cumbria county council has revealed further details of a new 60-bed in-house care home which it first announced last autumn (CCMN November 2010). The new £7.2m facility will be built on land currently occupied by the council-owned George Basterfield House and would replace a total of four homes deemed to be unfit for purpose. West Point House, George Basterfield House, Bevan House and Rock Lea will close in sequence from 2011 to a scheduled 2013 opening.
