NHS England has set aside £30m from the £250m allocated to NHS trusts last summer to clear the waiting list backlog to spend on independent sector provision. The body said it had agreed to commission a significant range and volume of planned care from the sector between December 2014 and March 2015, equating to around 30,000 procedures. In a report to NHS Englands board, chief executive Simon Stevens said: It is apparent that NHS providers have not uniformly been able to deliver the extra volumes of elective activity they contracted to provide during the autumn.
