Personalisation has ‘rapidly increased’ says report

A report published last month has found that personalisation in care is rapidly increasing’. The findings come after the latest figures on direct payments and self-directed care from NASCIS (National Adult Social Care Intelligence Service) revealed that the vast majority of personal budgets are being held by councils and are being spent on behalf of service users rather than being given in the form of direct payments (CCMn October 2012). The number of people using self directed support during 2011/12 was 605,739, an increase of 38% since 2010/11; and 192,334 people received a direct payment, an increase of 9% on 2010/11. Around 43% of people using social care now receive self directed support. The review was conducted by Towards Excellence in Adult Social Care (TEASC), a body comprising leading agencies concerned with the commissioning, management and regulation of social care in England.
