York to spend up to £30m on new homes

City of York council is set to spend up to £30m on two new care homes to replace seven of its current elderly care facilities. It approved plans last month to open a 90-bed scheme at Lowfield and a 72-bed development at Burnholme. It is believed that they will cost an eyebrow raising £25m to £30m for both homes. They are to replace homes which the council said are no longer fit-for-purpose’. The Lowfield development is set to be part of a community village.
