McCarthy Stone recruits Katie Fisher as divisional MD

Katie Fisher

Developer and manager of retirement communities McCarthy Stone has appointed Katie Fisher as its divisional managing director for the Midlands.

Fisher has spent the past three years as chief executive of St Andrew’s Healthcare, which employs more than 4,000 people delivering mental healthcare services, education and research.

Before this she was CEO at the West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust where she ran NHS hospitals at Watford, St Albans and Hemel Hempstead, employing around 4,500 people and supporting 600,000 patients a year. Her experience includes working on large capital projects.

Fisher will lead McCarthy Stone’s Midlands division, which is one of its four operating segments covering England and Wales.

Covering the area from East Anglia across to mid Wales, she will be responsible for completing sales across a divisional portfolio of 26 retirement communities. The division has a further 26 sites in development and is looking to buy 16 sites a year to expand the provision of housing and care options for older people. Fisher will manage the division’s yearly land and construction budget of £100m.

‘I am delighted that we have appointed someone of Katie’s calibre and experience. Not only does she have huge operational knowledge, she also understands the needs of older people and how better housing and care options for those in later life help reduce the pressures of our ageing population on the NHS and social care system,’ said John Tonkiss, McCarthy Stone’s chief executive. ‘Katie will play a key role in our expansion plans across the group while continuing to improve the health and happiness of our customers.’

Fisher added: ‘This is an exciting time to be joining McCarthy Stone as its Midlands portfolio expands and strengthens. I am a firm believer in the many benefits of retirement living, from keeping people healthy and encouraging independence, to fostering community and reducing loneliness. I am looking forward to helping the organisation and the Midlands’s division meet its growth ambitions.’

Five developments are currently underway in the Midlands including Elizabeth Place in Market Harborough; Gibson Court in Woodhall Spa; Watson Place in Chipping Norton; Uplands Place in Cambourne; and Pine Gardens in Melton Mowbray.
