Mental health service faces prosecution

Richmond Psychosocial International Foundation (RPFI) will be prosecuted over an alleged failure to provide safe care and treatment, following the death at one of its homes.

The prosecution follows an incident in May 2016 when Sophie Bennett, 19, took her own life in Lancaster Lodge in Richmond, west London, a therapeutic residential home run by the foundation since April 2015.

By law, registered providers of health and social care services must take all reasonable steps and exercise all due diligence to ensure patients receive safe care and treatment.

The case is listed for first hearing at Ealing Magistrates’ Court on 24 May.
