Meallmore plans to open Sutherland House Care Home in Broughty Ferry, Angus, in spring next year.
The £14m three-storey home, which will provide residential, nursing and dementia care, will feature private en suite rooms for 54 residents and will create 60–70 jobs full-time equivalent jobs, including nurses, care assistants, administrators and managers.
A ‘topping out’ ceremony has been held by Meallmore, with Lara Bird MP in attendance. She met with senior staff members from both Meallmore and the construction team from CHAP Group.

Our aim is to create a first-class example of excellent standards of care in a great building and within a great community – a home that becomes a welcoming part of Broughty Ferry, helping residents stay connected to the people and places that matter to them. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming local residents and their families and seeing this building really start to come to life,’ said Cillian Hennessey, Meallmore chief executive officer.
Bird said: ‘Investment such as this is huge for Broughty Ferry. Not only is it bringing jobs into the area, but it’s bringing a real sense of community. I was so delighted to meet with the team to see how invested they are in giving back to the community whilst they’re going through the project.’
Meallmore operates 27 homes across Scotland: 21 for older people, five for adults with mental health needs and one for adults with learning or physical disability. Two other new homes are in development, which will provide services for older people in Aberdeen City and Clarkston.
