Asterix expands medical leadership team

Asterix Health has appointed former Livi medical director Dr Harriet Bradley as medical director and former NHS England (NHSE) deputy medical director Dr Mike Bewick as strategic medical lead.

Bradley (pictured) joins the company from GP Pathfinders Clinic, where she was medical director. Prior to that, she served as medical director and director of commercial operations at digital primary care provider Livi, leading the clinical team as the service expanded to 11 million patients nationally and became the first telehealth provider to receive an outstanding rating from the CQC.

At Asterix, she will oversee clinical strategy, governance and service delivery.

‘I’m excited to be joining Asterix, as their model represents a scalable solution, which will alleviate some of the serious workforce issues which GP services are facing,’ she said. ‘Their innovative model was included in the NHS 10 year plan and I believe represents a key part of how the NHS will deliver services in the future. The NHS needs to improve on access and quality and the Asterix model delivers on both.’

Bewick takes on the role of strategic medical lead after advising Asterix’s clinical operations for the past year.

As deputy medical director at NHSE, he was responsible for primary care nationally and led the implementation of the Responsible Officer and Revalidation Programme. Before joining NHSE, he was a practising GP and medical director for NHS Cumbria.

His responsibilities at Asterix will include clinical governance and quality assurance, the company’s GP accreditation programme and the expansion of clinical services for NHS practices.

The appointments come as Asterix expands its remote GP workforce model, which uses UK-registered GPs to deliver NHS primary care remotely. The company said practices using the model have reported cost savings of 30%, with its doctors delivering 3,000 hours of care supporting practices serving 250,000 patients nationally.
