Medical defence organisation the Medical Protection Society (MPS) is expanding its services into the corporate insurance market with three senior appointments.

The new offering to corporates brings together MPS’s three main services: professional protection, risk prevention, and its new medical malpractice insurance, provided by Healthcare Protection, through its B2B arm, MPS Partnerships.

This expansion has been bolstered by three senior appointments from commercial insurance backgrounds.

Stuart Purdy, non-executive director. MPS Council

Stuart Purdy has been appointed as non-executive director to the MPS Council, Geoff Jones as executive director for member protection and support, and Colin Kirkpatrick in the new position of corporate business development director.

Purdy was previously group CEO of Aviva Ireland for three years, where he later became director of products and investments.

Colin Kirkpatrick, corporate business development director

Kirkpatrick joins MPS from the International Medical Group, where he served as chief commercial officer and managing director. He also previously served as chief commercial officer for ALC Health and head of international business development for William Russell Limited.

Jones began his career at Weightmans LLP as defendant PI lawyer acting for a range of insurers and public organisations. For the past ten years he has worked for RSA insurance, holding senior positions including chief claims officer Ireland, commercial claims director UK & Europe, and director specialty and wholesale.

Mark Randerson, executive director for business development and engagement at MPS, said: ‘Healthcare Protection is a key component of our new offering to the corporate healthcare market and these three recent appointments, all with strong commercial insurance backgrounds, demonstrate MPS’s commitment to delivering value to healthcare organisations.’
