Spire bolsters board with new non-executive director

Spire Healthcare has appointed Professor Clifford Shearman as an independent non-executive director with effect from 1 October 2020.

Shearman, who will also join Spire’s clinical governance and safety committee from 1 January 2021, was a consultant vascular surgeon for 26 years and is currently vice president of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is also non-executive director at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch NHS Foundation Trust.

His appointment increases the number of Spire board members with clinical experience to four.

Spire Healthcare chairman Garry Watts said he was delighted Shearman had agreed to join the board.

‘His experience as a consultant will bring particular insight into this key stakeholder group for Spire and make him a valuable addition to our Board,’ he added.
