Ed Ireland, hospital director, Spire Little Aston

Spire Healthcare has appointed Ed Ireland as its hospital director of Spire Little Aston in Birmingham.

Ireland has been working at the group for more than six and a half years since joining in 2013 as Spire Little Aston’s physiotherapy deputy manager. He was then promoted to the role of inpatient services manager in 2015.

In 2016, Ireland became head of clinical services before being promoted to director of clinical services at Spire Nottingham in January 2018.

In his new role, Ireland will be responsible for ensuring Little Aston has rigorous and robust systems to ensure patients are kept safe and care is effective.

‘Ed has been a tremendous asset to Spire Healthcare over the past few years, supporting colleagues in maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and care, and helping to lead Spire Nottingham to gaining an ‘outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission,’ said John Forrest, chief operating officer of Spire Healthcare. ‘Ed has built up a great network and the respect of his colleagues, all of which will provide the foundation for success in his new position.’

Ireland said: ‘This is a great time to be joining, as the hospital has just received another ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission.

‘I’m looking forward to working with the fantastic team here to build on what’s working well, and ensure we continue to provide the best care to every patient, every day.’
