A new diagnostics clinic has opened on Harley Street with the backing of Siemens Healthineers and Siemens Financial Services (SFS). Marris Medical will provide MRI and ultrasound services, as well as what it describes as the UK’s first office-based laboratory (OBL) for minimally invasive procedures.
The facility has been established by consultant radiologist Dr Ammad Hussain, chairman of Marris Medical, who also runs a polyclinic and diagnostic centre in Dubai. The London clinic combines diagnostic imaging with an OBL model already in use in the United States, offering interventional radiology and personalised pain management treatments. Procedures, such as spine or joint injections using a C-arm machine, can be carried out with minimal sedation in a ‘mini operating theatre’.
Marris Medical said the model is intended to improve patient access, reduce waiting times and lower costs for services such as pain management, where NHS referral-to-treatment targets are often exceeded.
To equip the clinic, Hussain acquired an MRI scanner, ultrasound system and mobile C-arm machine from Siemens Healthineers, financed through SFS. He said: ‘It’s not easy to access financing as a new company with no income, but the long-term relationship with Siemens gave SFS the confidence to work with us. We agreed on a seven-year financing term for the MRI and C-arm, and a five-year term for the ultrasound system.’
The MRI system includes software designed to improve image quality and cut scan times by up to 73%, which the clinic said would support patients who prefer shorter scans or have difficulty remaining still.
