One-stop breast service launched at Basinghall Clinic

Basinghall Clinic has launched a one-stop breast care clinic at its diagnostic and outpatients centre in the City of London.

The clinic, which is operated by Bupa-owned Cromwell Hospital, re-opened earlier this year following extensive refurbishment, including installation of a 3D mammogram machine.

This can reduce the need for further follow-up imaging, detect more cancers than a standard mammogram and improve breast cancer detection in dense breast tissue.

Patients will be able to undergo standard scans, including ultrasound and mammogram and, if necessary, have a biopsy in the same day. Consultants will discuss the findings during the same visit and patients who are diagnosed with cancer will be able to access fast onward referral to the Cromwell Hospital.

Cromwell Hospital director of breast surgery Giles Davies said: ‘Over the last 18 months, it has been harder to access routine screenings such as mammograms. We know how concerning a change to the breast can be and how stressful it can be waiting for test results.

‘This is why we’ve launched our new rapid services, to give patients the tests they need, quickly, with results the same day.’
