Ramsay reports positive findings from GIRFT review

Ramsay Health Care UK has reported positive findings from an independent national review of its orthopaedic and spinal services.

The review, commissioned by the Australian-owned hospital group in 2025, was carried out by GIRFT Projects @ Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital using a methodology developed through the Getting It Right First Time programme.

As part of the review, 29 Ramsay UK hospitals delivering orthopaedic services were evaluated, of which 20 also deliver spinal services.

It found that clinical outcomes benchmarked positively against national standards, alongside shorter lengths of stay compared to national averages and efficient patient pathways.

Ramsay said the findings provided external assurance of the quality, safety and consistency of its services. In 2025, it delivered more than 63,000 orthopaedic and spinal episodes of care to NHS patients.

The report also identified areas for further development, including reducing unwarranted variation, strengthening governance and standardising best practice.

GIRFT programme lead Professor Tim Briggs said: ‘With Ramsay UK carrying out more than 63,000 orthopaedic and spinal episodes of care for NHS annually, it is pleasing to see that this review has highlighted strong foundation of safe and efficient care.’

Separately, Ramsay said Tees Valley Hospital had been selected to undergo Surgical Hub Accreditation under the GIRFT programme.
