Re:Cognition Health has launched a cognitive health and memory assessment aimed at supporting earlier detection of Alzheimer’s disease and other causes of memory decline in adults aged 50 and over.
The new service, called CognitionCheck, is being delivered in partnership with Scan.com, which will provide MRI brain scans through its network of more than 300 CQC-registered imaging centres across the UK.
The launch comes amid growing focus on earlier diagnosis of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, particularly as new disease-modifying treatments become available. Alzheimer’s disease accounts for an estimated 60-80% of dementia cases in the UK, with total dementia cases forecast to rise from around one million to 1.4 million by 2040.
The assessment combines four diagnostic elements within a single pathway: an MRI brain scan, AI-driven cognitive testing, a p-Tau217 blood biomarker test, and a consultation with a specialist cognitive physician.
The p-Tau217 blood test is designed to help identify whether mild memory symptoms may be linked to early-stage Alzheimer’s disease.
Re:Cognition Health CEO and medical director Emer MacSweeney said: ‘Early diagnosis is more crucial today than ever. With new treatments that slow Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative conditions, identifying changes before symptoms become severe allows people to benefit from these therapies.
‘Too often, cognitive decline is advancing ahead of overall physical health, and in many cases, the brain is dying before the body.’
The assessment is intended to help identify the underlying causes of memory concerns, which can include conditions that are treatable or reversible if diagnosed early.
Dr Lizzie Tuckey, managing director at Scan.com, said: ‘The easier a brain MRI is to access, the sooner patients get answers and the more options they have for treatment and planning.’
