The Bangladesh government is formulating guidelines regarding Bangladeshi patients receiving treatment abroad. There are no deadlines for this.
- Ability to pay for overseas treatment
- Preference for treatment abroad
- Health tourism
- Lack of suitable treatment facilities in Bangladesh
The government is spending money on medical training, hospitals and modern equipment to improve local treatment.
Nasim claims that some local private hospitals are offering treatment for overseas patients but is unable to offer any guidance on numbers or the numbers from Bangladesh going abroad, mostly to India, for treatment.
Under these circumstances, he said, ‘The work on formulating guidelines for Bangladeshi patients regarding receiving treatment abroad is underway.’
The minister, however, could not present the statistics on the number of people who go aboard from Bangladesh for treatment, or their expenditure.
