Changes at the top for Malaysia medical travel

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has announced that its CEO, Sherene Azli, stepped down from her role as of last month. Yazmin Azman becomes Acting Chief Executive Officer.

In their statement, MHTC describe how, during her six-year tenure as the CEO, Sherene has significantly grown Malaysia Healthcare’s standing in the healthcare travel industry, transforming the country from a ‘Hidden Jewel of Asia’ to ‘the World’s Healthcare Marvel’. It goes on to state “Her driving force in fostering public-private partnerships behind a sustainable healthcare travel industry resulted in some of the country’s top industry commendations including the quadruple wins as the [IMTJ] ‘Health and Medical Tourism: Destination of the Year’. Her leadership has been instrumental in realising Malaysia Healthcare’s vision as the number one global healthcare travel destination by volume, welcoming nearly 1.3 million healthcare travellers in 2019 alone.”

Medical tourism remains a key economic growth driver for the country, and MHTC’s mission will be to continue to promote Malaysia as the “World’s Healthcare Marvel” and to provide long-term value to international patients, public and private stakeholders, and partners.

In a recent statement, Acting Chief Executive Officer/Chief Commercial Officer, Yasmin Azman, said “Malaysia Healthcare faced the challenges of 2020 with resilience and determination to provide continuity of care amidst the global lockdown – an effort we will continue in 2021 with the same tenacity and care for our global healthcare travellers”.
