Insurance and travel passes for visitors to Singapore

As Singapore relaxes its restrictions on essential and business travel, it is offering COVID-19 insurance to short-term visitors in case they contract the viral disease during their stay.

The product, ChangiAssure, offers up to SG$100,000 (US$73,500) in hospitalisation cover. It is underwritten by HL Assurance and distributed by Changi Travel Services, a subsidiary of the Changi Airport Group. Individuals from ages three to 70 are eligible for the cover.

ChangiAssure can be bought before or upon arrival in Singapore. It comes in two tiers: the basic plan, which provides up to SG$8,000 in hospitalisation or quarantine expenses in case the traveller is infected with COVID-19 during their stay in Singapore, and the superior plan, which ups the previous benefit to SG$100,000 and adds SG$100,000 in accident cover and SG$200,000 for death and disability cover.

Travellers from select countries can apply for an Air Travel Pass that allows visitors to enter Singapore without having to quarantine.

Travellers who qualify for the Air Travel Pass are people who have spent 14 consecutive days in:

  • Australia (excluding Victoria)
  • Brunei
  • New Zealand
  • Vietnam

Singapore accepts travellers, but only for essential and business related travel from selected countries. Tourists and health tourists are not allowed in, but medical tourists are considered on an individual basis from:

  • China
  • Japan
  • Malaysia
  • South Korea

Discussions are being held on both categories with other countries.

All travellers are tested upon arrival for COVID-19, must download the TraceTogether app, and agree that they will be responsible for all medical bills, including Covid treatment, while in Singapore.
