New data on Thailand medical tourism

According to estimates by Thailand’s Economic Intelligence Centre, although medical tourism makes up less than 9% of all visitors to Thailand, it is a very lucrative portion.

Medical tourists tend to spend more money and stay longer. The average spend is 4,200 dollars for a cosmetic surgery tourist over two weeks, in comparison to 1,300 dollars over 6 days for a cultural and leisure tourist.

Most patients are from the Emirates and other ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Myanmar).
