Bupa UK now offers access to pencil-scanning technology for the treatment of tumours, due to a new partnership with the Proton Therapy Centre in Prague.
Bupa UK has partnered with the Proton Therapy Centre in Prague to offer its eligible health insurance members access to pencil-scanning technology for the treatment of tumours.
The technology treats tumours by accelerating protons until they reach half the speed of light.
Unlike traditional radiotherapy using X-rays, proton therapy can pin-point the precise area to target and preserve healthy tissue around the tumour, making treatment less invasive for patients and helps reduce their recovery time.
The technology has treated more than 2,500 patients from 25 countries.
It can target tumours in the head, neck, brain, central nervous system, lungs, prostate, breast, pancreas and lymphomas. It can also help treat tumours in children.
