Vietnamese insurers link with Malaysian hospitals

Malaysian hospitals and Vietnamese insurance companies have agreed a partnership to send insured patients from Vietnam to hospitals in Malaysia.

The deal includes leading Malaysian private hospitals the National Heart Institute, Ramsay Sime Darby Health Care and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur.

The Vietnamese insurers include PTI, VBI and PJICO.

The Malaysian hospital will be part of the Vietnamese insurance companies’ network, ensuring that the customers enjoy insurance rights and interests are similar to those in Viet Nam.

The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) brokered the deal and expects numbers of medical tourists from Vietnam to double this year.

Malaysia has cooperative relationships with Vietnam in economics, trade and investment areas, which have seen rapid and stable development over the years.

MHTC figures suggest more than 5,000 Vietnamese patients visited Malaysia for healthcare treatment in the 2013-14 period. The figure is expected to double this year.
