Monitor launches probe into CCg behaviour

Monitor has launched its first investigation into allegations that the purchasing of elective surgery by Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) is disadvantaging an independent provider. The health regulator said it would assess the procurement behaviour of both Blackpool and Fylde and Wyre CCGs against competition rules after Spire Healthcare claimed referrals to its Fylde Coast Hospital had fallen dramatically since the instigation of a block contract with the local Blackpool Victoria Hospital.
