NHS – experts predict co-payment in future

A number of healthcare experts predicted an increase in the use of co-payment in the NHS last month. Speaking at a DLA Piper event, Healthcare in the Modern World, the experts said the future could see more people paying for some treatments which, under the current system, are available free and at the point of need. Chief executive of Ramsay Healthcare, Jill Watts, warned that current funding methods, such as taxation, were not working. She commented: We don’t want to move away from a free system for all but what does that mean? Will some things be rationed? Will some things be paid for?’
