The Health Secretary, Andrew Lansley announced last month that NHS patients would get more choice about who provides their hospital care from April 2012. From next year patients will be able to choose a consultant-led team to provide their treatment based on their individual needs. Patients can also choose to be treated anywhere in England – there will be no geographical boundaries imposed on referrals.
