Check4Cancer appoints deputy CMO for digital skin cancer services

Check4Cancer has appointed Joseph Walls as deputy chief medical officer for digital skin cancer services.

Walls (pictured), a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, was skin cancer lead at North West Anglia NHS Trust for almost ten years. He completed a higher surgical MD in skin cancer diagnosis in Cambridge and has assessed more than 100,000 skin lesions through teledermatology since 2013. He has also published research in leading journals and presented nationally and internationally.

In his new role, Walls will support the integration of Check4Cancer’s skin cancer AI model and forthcoming skin cancer app into its teledermatology service.

Professor Gordon Wishart, chief medical officer at Check4Cancer, said: ‘His comprehensive clinical and research experience in the diagnosis of skin cancer has been instrumental in planning how best to digitalise our skin cancer diagnosis service. Implementation of our new AI model will allow greater scalability and efficiency while maintaining performance and safety standards, and when launched in 2026, our skin cancer app will allow patients to capture high quality images of a worrying skin lesion at home.’
