One Hatfield Hospital launches ophthalmology service

One Hatfield Hospital has launched a new ophthalmology service led by consultant ophthalmologist Mfazo Hove.

The service has already carried out its first cataract procedure and will provide diagnosis and treatment for conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, blepharitis, floaters and flashes, refractive errors such as short and long-sightedness, astigmatism, as well as eye infections and injuries.

‘Early intervention is vital in preventing avoidable sight loss, and I’m delighted to be leading this new service,’ said Hove. ‘Our aim is to provide patients with access to high-quality, personalised care in a modern, comfortable setting.’

One Hatfield Hospital opened in 2017 following a £35 million investment. It was acquired by Phoenix Hospital Group, which also operates One Ashford Hospital, Phoenix Hospital Chelmsford and three centres in London’s Harley Street district, in 2023.
