Australians head to Greece for fertility treatment

Greek Australian Dr Kostas Pantos opened his Athens Genesis fertility clinic in 2004. Since then he has helped thousands of couples conceive, many of them from overseas.

More than 2,000 of those babies have been born to Australian families. The clinic has seen a huge jump in applications from Australia thanks to word of mouth

Dr Pantos comments, “At the moment Greece is a hot spot for in vitro fertilisation. We have couples from 34 countries around the world, including from Australia.”

Greece is much cheaper than Australia, The UK or USA and many of the clinics in Greece have high IVF success rates. The biggest draw is the local law.

Unlike Australia, IVF donors are completely anonymous, so couples have no worries about the future risk of the donor and the child reuniting. This is very important for couples that cannot conceive naturally.

Greek reproductive tourism is seeing a huge rise in popularity. Pantos reports a 30% increase in numbers in 2014 and a 20% increase so far in 2015.
