Kuwait succeeds in reducing outbound medical tourism

The Ministry of Health is following its health reform agenda and is reducing outbound medical tourism.

Having brought in new procedures in 2014, the ministry has been able too control the number of overseas treatment cases with a reduction of 50%. It drastically reduced the number of hospitals that state paid medical tourists could use, and make it harder to go overseas.

The number of patients sent to London for treatment reduced from 1100 in 2013 to 500 in 2014.

New procedures were recently applied to reduce the financial allocations provided to the patients’ companions.
