Launch of Greek Health Tourism Confederation

The Greek Health Tourism Confederation has been founded by Constantine Constantinides. The non-profit association has 28 individual founder members, including academics, medical and tourism professionals.

The Greek Health Tourism Confederation seeks to be the national Industry representative body for Greek health tourism. As well as health related members, it includes support services such as hotels and consultants.

The aims include to:

  • Contribute to the development and promotion of Greece as a credible and attractive health tourism destination.
  • Encourage and support the expansion of the industry.
  • Encourage and support the creation of integrated, efficient and competitive local health tourism destinations.
  • Contribute to the promotion of destinations, providers and services.

It has identified 8 separate sectors, including the usual ones of medical tourism, dental tourism, spa tourism and wellness tourism. The other four are ones that many may not regard as being within the scope of health tourism – culinary tourism, sports tourism, accessible tourism, and assisted residential tourism.

The organisation has selected several Greek destinations ideal for developing and promoting health tourism, and seeks to set up a local health tourism representative association in each one:

  • Andros
  • Athens
  • Corfu
  • Crete
  • Evia
  • Kos
  • Lesvos
  • Mykonos
  • Rhodes
  • Samos
  • Santorini
  • The Peloponnese
  • Thessalia
  • Thessaloniki

A representative body for the Peloponnese has been founded and ones in Crete, Thessaloniki and Athens are in preparation.
