Insurance for Malaysia medical travellers

Patient completing a travel insurance form

With more international travel destinations making Covid-19 insurance part of the entry requirements, inbound medical tourists to Malaysia now have a new option. Tune Protect Group and the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) have collaborated to introduce a Covid-19 travel protection plan for those seeking medical advice and treatment in Malaysian private hospitals.

The COVID Travel Pass+ is inbound travel insurance for medical tourists visiting Malaysia. All foreign nationals travelling to Malaysia are encouraged to have COVID-19 insurance.

COVID Travel Pass+ is available for purchase by non-Malaysians who plan to travel to Malaysia and anywhere within Malaysia. It is a requirement to have a minimum US$80,000 (equivalent to RM336,000) when entering Langkawi Island.

This insurance is not available for Malaysians or permanent residents of Malaysia, or otherwise legally employed in Malaysia. It is only open to travellers age from 30 days and up to 70 years old.  The benefits include:

  • Personal Accident.
  • Travel Inconvenience.
  • Inpatient Medical Expenses.
  • Emergency Medical Evacuation and Repatriation.
  • 24 hours Travel Assistance Services.

The maximum cover is for 60 days and even if a medical tourist needs to stay longer, the cover period cannot be extended.

Covid Travel Pass+ comes in two different plans, Basic and Premium,  with higher limits for the latter. It can only be bought online.
