COVID-19 is under control; Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel campaign continues

Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) CEO Sherene Azli has confirmed that Malaysia will continue efforts to promote inbound medical travel this year, but recognises the COVID-19 outbreak will make it more of a challenge.

According to MHTC on the 12th February, based on the Ministry of Health’s (MOH) most current assessment, the situation of COVID-19 infection is under control and in the early containment phase in Malaysia. MOH will continue to strengthen preparedness for the possibility of the next phase i.e. late containment and subsequently, the mitigation phase.

Azli confirmed that MHTC would continue to promote the Malaysia Year of Healthcare Travel 2020 campaign, in spite of the global virus outbreak. It has a target of attracting two million medical travellers this year, including one million from Indonesia. China is amongst several Asian countries that MHTC is actively targeting in 2020. It is promoting Malaysia as a major regional hub for infertility, cardiology and oncology treatments.

Azli also stated that that the safety of Malaysians remained a top priority.

The COVID-19 infection in Malaysia is currently being managed by MOH, the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), together with various other ministries and agencies, in a Committee chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dato’ Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail.
