Jordan’s medical travel numbers are ‘up by 25%’

Jordan’s medical tourism patient numbers are up by 25% for the first 8 months of 2022 reports the Private Hospitals Association (PHA). Applying this percentage increase to an existing annual figure of 157,000 in 2021 could mean 2022 annual numbers of 195,000.

Health care and therapeutic tourism are top priorities of economic growth for Jordan, and are contained in the vision that was launched recently by the state.  The state Is keen to develop the health sector and make Jordan a key destination for treatment in the region.

Challenges facing Jordan’s health sector include the need to obtain prior approval to enter Jordan for some nationals, lack of direct flights to the most important target countries such as Libya, Yemen, Sudan and Nigeria, in addition to the high operational costs, taxes and fees.

New inbound medical travel figures announced in July at the 7th Medical Tourism World Summit, Conference and Expo, put the number of medical tourists at 85,000 in the first half of 2022.
