Brunei’s Ministry of Tourism has launched a domestic tourism campaign as the country’s inbound tourists have plummeted during the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Initiated by the Ministry of Tourism and the Brunei Tourism Board the campaign is a collaboration between hotels, local travel agents, tourism service providers and relevant government agencies.12 tourism agencies, 10 hotels and 26 tourism service providers are offering domestic tourism packages.

The domestic tourism campaign is also prepared to target the upcoming school holidays this December. Due to limited travel activities as a result of the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected that locals will spend their holidays visiting places within the country with their families. It is hoped that the campaign will contribute to the country’s economic growth by encouraging locals and residents to spend locally. This in turn, will also help open up more business opportunities for local entrepreneurs.

Brunei is open to international tourists, health tourists and medical tourists. Brunei Tourism promotes medical tourism at the Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), plus Gleneagles JPMC and the National Cancer Centre, both of which are within the JPMC complex.

Brunei Tourism also promotes spas, fitness and yoga centres and a host of sporting and activity centres including gyms and exercise classes.
