BDMS adjusts to fall in international patients

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services had a substantial drop in revenue from international patients but has introduced global tele-medical services.

Bangkok Dusit Medical Services, best known for Bangkok Hospital, BDMS has 46 hospitals in Thailand and two in Cambodia and one being built in Thailand.

Financial results for the first quarter of 2020 saw a 5% decrease in hospital revenue due to a substantial drop in revenue from international patients due to travel restrictions. Hospitals in Bangkok were hit hardest.

Revenue from international patients fell 14% including a 40% fall from the Middle East, 32% from China and 9% from ASEAN patients excluding Thailand. 71% of hospital revenue came from Thai patients.

Progress has been made with the launch of Sanitivej Virtual Hospital as an online hospital, and Bangkok Hospital Delivery Services for teleconsultation plus e-home health services for blood tests, vaccination and medication. Another subsidiary offers screening tests for COVID -19.

Medical innovation also includes a smart robot with a camera to connect doctors and patients, and a self-examination device for patients to use prior to an online medical consultation.
