Cyprus agreement with Hungary on health travel

Cyprus has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hungarian officials, aimed at facilitating the exchange of knowledge to help promotion of the health and wellness tourism sector in Cyprus.

Hungary is considered an advanced country in health and wellness tourism and Cyprus wants to acquire know-how to support a new plan to be announced soon aiming to create infrastructure in hotels for the provision of health, wellness, medical tourism and assisted living services.

The health and wellness tourism project involves funding of €10 million (US$9.87million) and is expected to be announced at the end of the year or at the beginning of 2023, with a duration of four years.

Despite the loss of the Russian market, European Union markets such as Hungary have recorded high tourism numbers. Although Hungary was a leading dental tourism destination, there are doubts that dental, medical and spa tourism has recovered. Hungary has an overview and optimistic plan on reviving tourism but so far has no published plans on any of these sectors.
