The Association of Private Hospitals Malaysia (APHM) has said it will support the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Industry Blueprint 2021-2025, stating it is confident that the three pillars listed under the blueprint to boost the country’s medical tourism industry are achievable.
Malaysia’s National Recovery Council proposes reopening borders to foreign travellers by January 1 2022. The country plans to ease into reopening its international tourism sector. It has opened to fully vaccinated tourists from select countries to visit without quarantine but only to the northern resort island of Langkawi.
APHM points out that private hospitals are the main participants in the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Industry Blueprint 2021-2025. It believes that medical tourism was one of the key contributors to Malaysia’s economic growth, so it is crucial to have a guide to boost the recovery of this industry.
The success of Malaysia’s healthcare tourism sector is attributed to three aspects: best in class care, hi-tech facilities and access to innovative treatment. APHM suggests fast access to high-quality and innovative medications will support growth of this industry in the face of regional competition.
The association expects to achieve a sizeable growth in medical tourism to the country within the next five years.
The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) has also recently hosted insigHT2021, seen as the region’s leading medical travel market intelligence conference. The conference focused on how the global medical travel industry can remain resilient in manoeuvring through uncertainties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MHTC has stated it will continue to build trust for Malaysia healthcare as a thought leader for the industry.
